Ways you can improve your health and prevent complications

  1. Keep regularly scheduled appointment with your health care team.

  2. Get your eyes checked yearly. A dilated eye exam can detect eye problems early.

  3. Monitor your skin for changes

  4. Wear appropriate foot wear

  5. See a podiatrist annually

  6. Keep your weight and blood pressure in check

  7. Obtain regular labwork to monitor diabetes control and kidney disease.

  8. Avoid high fat foods and monitor your cholesterol.

  9. Make sure your immunizations are up to date. It is important to be vaccinated against coronavirus, influenza and pneumonia.

  10. Keep regular dental exams.

Smoking can lead to many complications of diabetes. Smokers with diabetes are more likely to suffer from poor blood flow to their legs. This can cause delayed healing, foot ulcers and amputations.
